This startling revelation isn’t just spiritual speculation—even science acknowledges that over 95% of the universe consists of dark matter and dark energy, elements we cannot directly observe or fully understand.

While scientific knowledge has given us remarkable insights into galaxies, black holes, and the expanding universe, it remains fundamentally limited by its dependence on sense knowledge—what we can see, hear, touch, and measure. As multidimensional spiritual beings temporarily experiencing a three-dimensional existence, we need to understand that there’s a profound difference between the cosmos described by science and the cosmos of God.
The scientific cosmos presents the universe as an accidental explosion—the Big Bang—governed by natural laws with no inherent spiritual meaning. In contrast, the cosmos of God is spiritual at its core, governed by divine order, vast beyond measurement, layered in multiple dimensions, and fundamentally operating as a kingdom. This understanding doesn’t contradict scientific discovery but completes it, providing answers to questions science isn’t designed to address: Who created the universe? Why does it exist? What happens beyond our three-dimensional experience?
Colossians 1:16-17 provides five foundational truths about God’s cosmos that illuminate this spiritual understanding. First, everything was created by God, not by random chance. The Big Bang may have occurred, but it wasn’t the beginning—it was the result of divine creative action. Second, there are two main realms: heaven and earth, distinct domains within God’s created order. Third, reality exists in both visible and invisible forms, confirming that what we see is merely a fraction of what exists. Fourth, the cosmos contains spiritual governments—thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers—that maintain divine order across multiple realms. Finally, Christ is both creator and sustainer, holding every atom, galaxy, and unseen dimension together by His power.
The divine hierarchy of creation reveals a cosmic structure more complex than most realize. At the highest level is the “heaven of heavens”—not a created planet but God’s uncreated dimension where He exists in perfect eternity. Below this lies the firmament—a spiritual boundary formed by the river flowing from God’s throne, which supports the heaven universe. This heaven realm is an entire universe of its own and serves as the domain of the highest spiritual governments. Further down, the lower firmament supports our earth universe, which includes all the galaxies, stars, and planets we observe. The final level is the underworld, technically part of the earth universe but distinct in its spiritual function.
Understanding this cosmic structure requires revelation knowledge—direct spiritual insight that transcends logical reasoning and sense-based understanding. Unlike scientific knowledge that comes through observation and measurement, revelation knowledge comes when God’s Spirit communicates directly with our human spirit, illuminating truths beyond three-dimensional comprehension. This is why some spiritual realities may initially seem illogical but reveal profound truths when spiritually discerned.
The cosmic revelation presented here isn’t speculation but a spirit-given framework based on biblical revelation. Deuteronomy 10:14, Revelation 5:13, and Philippians 2:10-11 all point to this layered cosmic reality where every realm—heaven, earth, under the earth, and the firmament—acknowledges God’s sovereignty. This understanding transforms our perspective, helping us see that we exist within a divinely ordered kingdom with Jesus Christ at its center—the sovereign star holding all creation together.
